I went to the 2nd show in Philadelphia on June 17th and this is my review. Please note I live in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and could not wait until September for the Mighty Van Halen to come. The 16th was completely sold out. The 17th which I attended there was only about 10,000 people there. It was like our own private concert. I have to say they looked pretty tired from the night before, (Mikey and Sammy). Eddie and Alex looked and sounded great. Like they haven't missed a beat. I was able to get great seats stage left 7 rows up on Ed's side. At 8:25, 5 minutes before the lights went down Eddie came out and stood behind his stacks waiting on everyone else. He was drinking wine right out of the bottle and smokin reds like it was his last one. It was a little sad to see that after everything he's been through. Oh well, life of a rock star. Eddie had a few guest that were seated in front of me. One being the mighty Rick Rubin who was given a set of headphones by the band to listen in, who knows. He is only one of the biggest names in music producing. He was escorted by some fine babes. Lights went down, "JUMP." Big surprise. Get it out of the way, right? Sound was OK but I was on the side. Wish they would have been a little more attentive to the side. Oh well there was only 10,000 there. I was very disappointed by the stage. I mean it was very small. The runways were very narrow and center stage was very tight. They seemed to bump into each other a lot. Eddie was plugged in and didn't stray at all. I guess the days are gone where the monster Van Halen stage takes up most of the arena. Eddie played in his little corridor all night. It would have been nice if he could walk up the runways and play in front of us. There was a few "Flying Eddies," not many. The kids that had the "Golden Ring Seats" must have had a blast. The band was very attentive to them. They got high five's, pics, autographs, and the occasional beer. During Sammy's solo, Eddie jumped down from the side of the stage in the dark and surprised everyone in his side of the "Golden Ring." It looked like he greeted everyone and even signed a few autographs. Can't get that with All Access 5 Star. It looked like the boyz were very thankful to the fans for putting up with all the crap for the past few years. Van Halen was great!!! It was worth everything in the world to see them play again. Can't wait till the next show.

I was at the second Philly show which wasn't sold out & they were awesome. Yes, they did the same things last night; Sammy signed shirts, put on different shirts. Yes, he had on the Red Rocker shirt on last night, too. Eddie had NO shirt on most of the night. During the first encore, he had on #42 of the Flyer's on while Mike had on a Phillies #25 on. Eddie hair was down; had on like puffy pants on with sneaks. He is also smoking again which I thought was awful. He fought off cancer twice next time; he might not be so lucky, & he's not setting a good example for Wolfie. I'll get off my soapbox now.

They all had solos. Eddie's was last. The crowd keep chanting, "Eddie, Eddie, Eddie". What a great guitar player he is! Alex on drums, fantastic!

Yes, they played Running with the Devil instead of Somebody Get Me a Doctor. Mike was singing through most of it.

I was in the lower level, Row 9. They had three big screens so you couldn't miss anything. I also had binoculars so I could see even better. The stage had two rings on either side. Sammy did a lot of running around on these. People were in the rings. One girl got Mike to sign her shirt right across her chest, & then he kissed her on the lips! For On Top of the World, Sammy was over the stage, walking around high up where the lights are. He moved from side to side, causing the crowd to go crazy each side he moved to.

The radio stations promoted these shows heavily. WMMR had a post party & played Van Halen music for about a 1/2 later after. But the local DJ that I heard in the morning described this show best, "It's not a concert; it's an event! You must see this show." I agree; you must. It was that good.

Absolutely incredible for different reasons.

In Philly, I was suddenly ushered INTO THE STAGE by a VH crew member. He said, "I'm with Van Halen, don't do anything stupid, and come with me". Did the VH symbol hand-to-hand with Sammy and shook hands with Michal Anthony off-stage. Absolutely incredible experience.
